Oggelsby Maintains Championship Lead with Strong Runs at Croft and Spa

Immico Chair Paul Oggelsby maintained his lead in the Caterham 270R Championship following two contrasting but successful race weekends at Croft and the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit.

At Croft, Oggelsby qualified P4 before battling defensively throughout an eventful race, eventually finishing P5. Heavy rain on Sunday transformed the weekend. Starting Race 2 from P5, he charged through to the lead and secured victory before an early safety car finish, also setting the fastest lap. Race 3 saw Oggelsby start from pole position, briefly lose the lead off the line, before reclaiming first place at Tower and controlling the race to take a second victory of the weekend.

The next round took the championship to Spa-Francorchamps, one of motorsport's most iconic circuits. Oggelsby delivered an impressive qualifying performance to secure pole position before facing torrential rain and even lightning during Saturday's race.

After initially losing the lead, he regained it when the car ahead spun and carefully managed the race in treacherous conditions to secure a memorable victory at Spa.

Sunday's dry conditions produced some of the closest racing of the season, with Spa's huge slipstream effect repeatedly bringing the field together. Oggelsby secured P2 with a last lap move at the final corner, before an unfortunate three car incident in the final race resulted in his first retirement of the season.

Reflecting on the two weekends, Oggelsby said:

"Croft and Spa couldn't have been much more different, but both were fantastic weekends. The wins at Croft were important, and to take pole position and a race win at Spa is something I'll remember forever. We're in a good position in the championship, but there's still a long way to go."

He added:

"A huge thank you to Rob and everyone at RS Motorsport, and to Will Orton for his coaching and support throughout the two weekends."

Oggelsby heads to Donington Park this weekend still leading the Caterham 270R Championship standings.
